Three Most Breathtaking Asian Countries for Surfing

Clint Groom, the senior design director at American Eagle Outfitters, enjoys spending his leisure time outdoors. An avid surfer, Clint Groom has traveled all over the world, particularly Asia, to find new places to indulge his passion.

Asia offers a variety of locales for surfing, with these three countries standing out as exceptional choices.

1. The Philippines. This island country has spots perfect for any level of surfer, from the uninitiated to the professional. While a small nation, it boasts the fifth largest coastline in the world, with year-round perfect conditions for surfing. One of the country’s most popular places for the sport is Baler on the east coast of the country’s largest, most populated island, Luzon. This city is considered the birthplace of surfing in the Philippines.

2. Indonesia. With almost 34,000 miles of coastline and an average annual temperature of around 80 degrees Fahrenheit, Indonesia is a haven for beach lovers. The best time to surf is during the dry season, from May to September, and surfers tend to frequent Bali, thought to have the country’s best waves.

3. The Maldives. Located in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Sri Lanka and consisting of 20 separate atolls, this small country is arguably ideal for experienced and advanced surfers. Surf cruises are popular for visitors looking to visit all of the popular spots, many with up to 9-foot waves in July and August.
